Terms of service
Last updated: 18 August 2026
The short version. This is a free game run by one person as a hobby. Use it, enjoy it, do not use it to harass anyone or to break it for other people. It comes with no guarantees about uptime, features or anything else, because there is nobody on call.
These terms govern your use of Potato Potahto at potatopotahto.app. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not, the remedy is straightforward: do not use the site.
1. What this is
Potato Potahto is a browser party game for three to ten people. It is free. There is no account, no subscription, no payment and nothing to buy. It is operated by Lucas Vedana as a personal project, not by a company.
Nothing here is a promise that a particular feature will exist tomorrow, or that the site will be reachable at any given moment. See section 5.
2. Who can use it
You need to be able to agree to these terms where you live. If you are under the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, you should have a parent or guardian’s permission, the same as for any other online game.
The game is not directed at children under 13. See section 5 of the privacy policy.
3. Acceptable use
The rules are the ones you would expect at a table with other people. Do not:
- Submit anything illegal, anything sexually explicit involving minors, anything designed to harass, threaten or seriously harm another player, or anything that attacks people for who they are.
- Try to disrupt the site — automated spam, flooding a room, overloading the server, or exploiting a bug to ruin the game for others.
- Use the game to gather information about other players without their knowledge.
- Try to reach parts of the site or the systems behind it that are not meant to be public.
A room can be closed, a player removed, or access blocked, if any of this happens. Be realistic about what that means in practice: this is one person and a server, so enforcement is best effort. If a game turns unpleasant, the fastest fix available to you is to leave the room and start a new one with a new code.
4. What you submit
Playing means typing a display name and answer cards, which are shown to the other people in your room as you write them.
- What you write is yours, and it is your responsibility. Do not post anything you do not have the right to post.
- Nothing is pre-screened. The game is live. Cards go to the table as they are submitted, and no one reviews them first. There is no moderation queue, because there is no moderator.
- Nothing is stored. Cards and names exist in server memory for the life of the room and are discarded when it empties. This is described in section 4 of the privacy policy.
- Permission to display. By submitting a card you give permission to show it to the other players in that game, for the purpose of running that game. That is the entire licence. We claim no ownership of what you write and there is no other use for it, given that it does not outlive the room.
5. No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. There is no promise that:
- the site will be up at any particular time, or at all;
- it will be free of bugs, errors or interruptions;
- any feature will keep working the way it does today.
Games are held in the memory of a single process. A restart, a crash or a deploy ends every game in progress. That is the design, not a fault, and it is worth knowing before a long session.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the site — up to and including a game night that ends three rounds early. You use it at your own risk.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for fraud, where that applies in your jurisdiction.
7. Advertising
The site shows ads through Google AdSense, which is what covers the cost of running it. How the advertising cookies work, and what your choices are, is set out in section 2.3 of the privacy policy.
The ads themselves are chosen by Google, not by us. We are not responsible for their content and do not endorse what they advertise. If an ad is broken or clearly breaks Google’s policies, tell us and it can be reported.
8. Third-party services
The site runs on Amazon Web Services, sits behind Cloudflare, and serves ads through Google. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, listed in section 8 of the privacy policy. We are not responsible for their content, policies or practices.
9. Changes
The site may be changed, suspended or shut down at any time, in whole or in part, without notice. These terms may be updated too; the date at the top reflects the most recent change, and continuing to use the site after one means you accept it.
10. Termination
Access may be restricted or ended at any time, including for breaking section 3. Since there are no accounts, there is nothing to close and no formal process to appeal — this is handled informally, at the scale the project actually operates at.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled by writing to the address below belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Massachusetts.
